Feels too late to write about our Christmas here but...

Going way back, K got a fever and was quite sick Christmas Eve. We took shifts cuddling and and sleeping with her because that is all that would keep her comfortable. She would perk up from time to time and found her smile just in time to talk to the grandparents and make a batch of cookies for Santa. Christmas morning quite frankly sucked. K was too weak and tired to open the better part of her stocking so needless to say presents got spread throughout the day as she felt up to it. I cooked what ended up being a remarkably healthy turkey dinner (green beans and fennel with lemon zest, cumin glazed carrots, cranberry apple stuffing, roasted sweet potatoes and apricot souffles) while the kids played with their new loot. Our company for dinner, while not immediate family was a delight to share our afternoon with. All in all, I can't complain but there were tears that morning that K couldn't enjoy the morning she had looked forward to all December.

She did slowly recover . We hummed and hawed over whether or not to take the trip to Ottawa at all with her still being sick, however we decided that the five hour drive would probably help her catch up on the sleep she needed. And sleep she did. We got to Ottawa, got settled had dinner and the took in the Senators game.

It was K's first NHL game. She was glued to the game and couldn't take her eyes off the ice for the entire first period. She got upset three minutes before the start of the second period missing the hockey players but she fell asleep before the face off. A full house of over 19,000 people and she didn't even flinch when the crowed erupted to cheer for a goal.

The rest of our Ottawa stay was spent visiting and catching up with friends and family and confusing the staff at the local Starbucks with our "Complic-latte" orders. I guess Barrhaven doesn't have many triple grande sugar free vanilla soy latte fanatics.
