No, not as a defendant...(I know that the thought may crossed some of your minds)

In preparation for my latest series of upcoming exams on the road to becoming a Trustee in Bankruptcy I have a two week rotation with a small office that mostly does personal and small business bankruptcy which is an experience that is significantly different from my normal big multi million or billion corporate reorganizations or sales that I have been involved in for the last several years. Things are different there. Clients who have been through business failures, addiction issues, injury or just crappy luck. They are in incredibly difficult and stressful personal situations and they come looking for help. Their financial lives are into the office in a couple of folders (if we are lucky) or piles of paper and they ask for advice or help. The process is one mandated and directed by Court and the Trustee is the link between the bankrupt, the creditors and the Court.

We were in Court today in Toronto to attend to matters for three of her clients. The Courtroom is intimidating and the docket for the afternoon was full. Our cases were dealt with in quick succession early in the session. Sitting in the first desk with microphone beside the podium (as the more legally inclined snicker and say it's called a __ ) and getting papers out of files and passing papers to the Trustee as she answered questions was cool. Seeing Court reports that I worked on last night and very early this morning being reviewed and commented on and entered into evidence way cool! Well at least once I new that it had been read, understood and not questioned or objected to.

So not quite LA Law or Street Legal but a neat day for me! Incidentally, all motions before the Court were decided as requested by the Trustee.
